At ages 0 - 2 years, we recommend books with little or no text, illustrated with colourful and high-contrast images, and nursery rhyming books.

High-contrast colours register quicker in a baby's brain and help the optic nerve to develop and grow. Rhyming text, simple shape and pattern helps babies to memorise and recall content. Start reading to baby this age will stimulate cognitive development and establish an interest in reading.

Books with easy sentences and repetitive text are suitable for children age 2 - 3 years. This is when they develop the ability to read and write. Parents are encouraged to read aloud with your child to build phonological awareness. By reading with your child, you are also emphasizing on the importance of early literacy skills and sowing the seeds of curiosity of their surroundings. Our partners have recommended catchy rhymes books, a series of lift-the-flap books, interesting, relatable stories that are just right for beginner readers.

When they are 3 - 5 years, it's time to teach the child social skills, nurture emotional development, a sense of aesthetic, development of hobbies, interest, creative expression and to think out of the box. We have included books with a wider range of vocabulary and longer stories. It definitely includes some new favourites to enjoy as a family!
